Fine Arts
Wayman Tisdale Fine Arts Academy integrates all areas of fine arts throughout language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. In order to promote creativity, we provide multiple opportunities for students to design, perform, and share as a community. As our students go through each grade, they explore various aspects of the arts. We are a school environment filled with learning and creativity!
Music
In elementary grade music classes, students will learn and practice the basic fundamental elements of music such as sound, melody, harmony, rhythm, and expression (dynamics, tempo, articulation). Students will engage in singing, playing instruments, responding to music with movement, and connecting with various cultures through music. These classes will help students develop creativity, self-expression, and problem-solving while creating music together as a team. These classes will also provide students with performance opportunities, which will help them develop a sense of ensemble, tolerance, perseverance, and rigor—enabling them to be well-rounded citizens of our global society.
Art
In elementary grade art classes, students will explore many different aspects of visual art. Students will let their creativity flow by engaging in activities such as drawing and painting with various materials. They also learn art vocabulary, explore the work of many different artists and art movements, and learn to appreciate art as it enhances our world.
The Zone Academy
TheZone is NOT 'school' after school, but rather hands-on recreation & fun that will enhance school time learning.
What makes The Zone unique is the foundation of Voice & Choice. The students help form Zone programming. They have a voice in what is offered & they choose their path of learning through surveys. We take THEIR choices & we create an environment where they learn, grow, relax, and have fun at the same time.
All Zone programming is strategically designed for academic & social development. The staff is trained in design & delivery of project-based learning that offers real world, relevant, & engaging problems. Unlike the day school that has time limits, TheZone has the flexibility for students to participate in project-based learning activities that extend into multiple sessions and days. Participating in these project-based activities allows students to learn abilities such as effective decision-making, leadership, & interpersonal skills. Students not only create solutions to "problems" but they ultimately obtain larger goals of positive relationships & critical-thinking skills while building language, math and scientific understanding.
The Zone received a five (5) year community learning grant to do this programming at Wayman Tisdale Fine Arts Academy. The Zone operates from 2:30-5:30 each day after school. For more information, please call 1-888-370-5444!
